Went to the boat race on Sunday. This is an annual race between Oxford and Cambridge that has been going on for ever. They race from Putney Bridge to Barnes Bridge, up river. The river bank fills up with people trying to catch a glimpse of the race, which is literally that. A glimpse. See them come, see them go.

Some people make a day out of it. With bbq or cocktails along the river houses. Some just bring a table and chairs and a picnic basket. It rained on Sunday but they did not move.

It’s quite a spectacle, to be honest. Rather ra-ra and posh but, a bit of what makes England England; traditions and all that.

Oxford won. Apparently, Cambridge took in water but they did not have a pump like Oxford to get rid of it and the weight kept them back.
